Pentiment The Narrative Adventure RPG Releases

The mystery game Pentiment being developed by Obsidian Entertainment is heading to PC and Xbox on November 15th. It will also be coming to both PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass on release.

The roleplaying game is a narrative-driven title following Andreas Maler a journeyman artist in 16th century Bavaria, who gets ropes into finding out who is the killer of his mentor, among solving other mysteries. The artstyle is also pretty unique, inspired by manuscripts and woodcut prints, with a narrative derived from history itself.

Pentiment’s art style is inspired by illustrated historical manuscripts, making for a unique narrative driven RPG.

When the game was first announced, we learnt while you get to solve the crime using your own detective choices, it’s up to you to decide who is guilty or who you believe deserves the punishment, which may not necessarily be the same person.

You can even sit down at the tavern to play a card game, getting more details on the potential suspects. The series of murders and scandals will span over the course of 25 years, and choices made will shape Andreas’ life, giving players more sense of agency.

If you really want to dive deep into the nitty gritty, you can take on the “abbey library late at night” to sift through secret documents for a more covert investigation.

But be warned, every decision made will carry the weight consequence, impacting the “tightly-knit Alpine community”. Not just affecting the immediate members of the community, but for “generations to come”. If you like the idea of being judge, jury and executioner, this could be an interesting medieval detective-styled game to play.
